A fun, easy 1/2 day ride, doable all year round, with a couple of brief stops and breakfast or lunch along the way.
You'll travel over Mountain Springs, NV at ~6000' elevation - lovely in summer and cool in winter - turning left about 27 miles from the Travel Center, onto Old Spanish Trail, and continuing through Tecopa, CA, to Shoshone, CA for a quick break (and lottery tix for those inclined), then on to Pahrump, NV for breakfast or lunch at Living Free Cafe - Pahrump! then back to Las Vegas.
Are there other place to share a meal?
Yes.
I enjoy Living free for its food, service, and mission. And Our Place is a great, fun, funky little beverage place on the opposite east end of town, with pastries and light fare.
My favorite part of this ride is the ethereal early morning light if you happen to go through there at sunrise.
You'll see a hand carved sign for Cathedral Canyon, now a ruins - just a short drive off of Tecopa Springs Road.
The Kit Fox Cafe in Tecopa has great coffee, food and outdoor seating. Fly swatter comes with every table.
CA Date Farm is nearby - please do not ride the gravel road on your bike. You'll thank me, or poke at me for being a sissy. I'm OK with that. Most of you do not have the skill to ride that road. I've ridden it. Once. I'm not an idiot rider.
Remember I told you.
I've been to the Crow Br Cafe in Shoshone so many times over the years they not only know me by name, they also know me by that one awful, hilarious, epic blind date...... a tourist 30 miles down the road had eavesdropped....... yeah, ask me about it sometime.
